Leçon 1

Wall Control Station Mounting & Wiring

Wall Station Purpose

The wall control station is the primary user interface for operating a garage door opener from inside the garage. It connects to the opener's logic board via low-voltage wiring and provides push-button control for open, close, and stop functions. Modern wall stations may also include:

  • Light control - toggles the opener's built-in light
  • Lock button - disables remote control operation
  • Motion sensor - activates the light when someone enters the garage
  • LCD display - shows temperature, battery status, and maintenance reminders

Mounting Height and Location

UL 325 requires the wall control station to be mounted:

  • At least 5 feet above the garage floor (to keep it out of children's reach)
  • Within sight of the door so the operator can see the door while pressing the button
  • Away from any moving parts of the door system

Wiring the Wall Station

Wall stations connect to the opener using two-conductor low-voltage wire (typically 22/2 or 18/2). The connection is straightforward:

  • Two terminals on the opener's logic board (usually labeled "Wall" or with a wall station icon)
  • Two terminals on the back of the wall station
  • Polarity does not matter on basic two-wire wall stations - either wire connects to either terminal
  • Multi-function wall stations may require additional conductors for light control, lock function, or serial communication

Smart Wall Stations

Modern "smart" wall stations use a serial data protocol over the same two wires. These stations communicate digitally with the logic board and are not interchangeable between brands. Always match the wall station to the opener manufacturer.

Key Takeaway

Mount wall stations 5 feet minimum above the floor with line of sight to the door. Basic stations use two-conductor wiring without polarity concerns; smart stations use serial communication and must match the opener brand.
